From Bach to Beethoven, the SABS is pleased to present another remarkable and inspiring musical event during its 2009 Summer Concert Series.  The celebrated duo of Steven Moeckel, violin, and Paula Fan, piano, will be presenting the complete set of Beethoven's Violin Sonatas over the span of three concerts (August 4, 7, & 9).  This is a rare opportunity to hear all ten of these sonatas performed live in a concert cycle.  It will be an  artistic journey for both the performers and the audience as we hear Beethoven's "Journey to Romanticism."

Join us on Tuesday, August 4 (7:00 PM) for the beginning and the end. Compare one of Beethoven’s early works with the Brahms-like melancholy of his final sonata. After intermission, enjoy the famous and grandiose “Kreutzer-sonata.”  The Mozartian scope of early Beethoven is paired with the angst and virtuosity of his middle period on Friday, August 7 (7:00 PM).  The cycle is completed on Sunday afternoon, August 9 (3:00 PM), with the beautiful “Spring-Sonata,” reminiscent of Beethoven’s 6th symphony, in stark contrast to the powerful and uncompromising C-minor sonata.

Do not miss this special event!  Purchase a Beethoven Pass and attend all three concerts for $25 Adult, $10 Students.

The SABS will also be presenting a FREE lecture, "Beethoven's Lunch with Brobeck,"  in conjunction with this event on Monday, August 3 (12:00 PM) at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (545 S. Fifth Ave.).  Following the success of last year's "Bach's Lunch with Brobeck," Dr. John Brobeck, musicologist, will offer another dynamic and informative lecture focused on Beethoven and his violin sonatas.  Reservations are required to atted this event due to limited seating.  Please send an e-mail to Dr. Binkley or call 520.323.2771 to reserve a seat (don't forget to bring your lunch, too!).
